All he sees are metal pipes

Smell of petrol burns his nose

He holds on for his life

Where he's going he doesn't know

He waits there for hours

Must have reached the Dover coast

He thinks about his wife

He knows he's left her alone

But he's holding on

And he'll hold on till he falls

Fingers are bleeding fast

His back is black and raw with the tarmac

Can't hear the cows in the fields

For the sound of the engine track

The heat and fumes cloud his mind

And he dreams of a job not hard to find

Lorry stops by the side of the road

Doesn't hear the driver leave them behind

But he's holding on

And he'll hold on till he falls

But he's holding on

And he'll hold on till he falls

He waits there for hours

Hears cars drive by so fast

But they told him not to let go

Not till the engine noise had passed

He thinks about his brother

He died a while back in the boats

He used to smile so hard

Said it would be alright, humans always float

But he’s holding on

And he’ll hold on till he falls

He’s holding on

And he’ll hold on till he falls

When the sun starts to come up

Engine slowly falters to a stop

Climbs out from underneath

Realises the driver's taken off

An awful smell fills his nose

He walks around to the back

He opens the door

Before him lie 40 bodies

He just closes the door behind him

Crawls back up by the engine

But he's holding on

And he'll hold on till he falls

But he's holding on

And he'll hold on till he falls
